Bayern Munchen’s unstoppable charge to yet another Bundesliga title sees them travel to Freiburg for a fixture they’ve not lost as visitors in over a decade. A 6-2 defeat in the reverse fixture was Freiburg’s 15th in the last 20 H2Hs (W1, D4), while their last home win against Bayern Munchen came way back in May 2015 (D3, L6). Bayern Munchen are yet to lose after conceding the opening goal in the Bundesliga this term (W5, D3).

Freiburg went into the international break on a high after recording back-to-back wins, the second of which, a 2-1 victory against St Pauli, kept them in the hunt for a top-seven finish. That may be enough to secure European qualification for Julian Schuster’s men, but their focus may be more sharply trained on an upcoming UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Celta Vigo. Taking their eye off the ball could have harsh consequences here, but Freiburg remain one of the division’s best home outfits, boasting an unbeaten Bundesliga record here against sides starting the round above them (W1, D4), while they’ve lost just once at Europa-Park Stadion in any competition since the opening weekend (W13, D4).

In Bayern Munich they face a side unbeaten on the road in competitive action since November (W9, D2), a run that’s helped them advance to the last eight of the Champions League and open up a nine-point lead at the Bundesliga summit. Vincent Kompany’s all-conquering side travel to Real Madrid immediately after this fixture, but will take nothing for granted here given that thanks to their incredible goal difference just four more wins will almost certainly see them retain the title. The Rekordmeister could also make history here, as they’re just four goals short of the all-time record of 101 scored by a team in a single season, set by themselves back in 1971/72.

Freiburg have kept just one clean sheet in their last 15 Bundesliga games. Freiburg have conceded a league-low five home goals after half-time this season. Seven of Bayern’s last eight competitive away games saw both teams score.

Igor Matanović has netted four times in his last three matches for club and country, with his two Bundesliga strikes therein arriving after half-time. Michael Olise ran riot in the reverse fixture, directly contributing to five of Bayern’s six goals (G2, A3) – his last ten Bundesliga strikes came beyond the half-hour mark.

Neither side look to have any fresh injuries, but Bayern Munchen could welcome back quartet Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and Aleksandar Pavlović from recent lay-offs.
