After ending a lengthy winless league run at the weekend, Crystal Palace now look to extend Burnley’s barren Premier League streak into club record territory. After winning the reverse fixture 1-0, Palace have now won three H2Hs in a row without conceding. Only one of the last eight meetings at Selhurst Park saw both teams score. Palace have scored exactly once in five successive games.
Crystal Palace perhaps couldn’t have handpicked a better game to end their nine-match winless league run than away to their bitter rivals Brighton. Sunday’s 1-0 victory eased some growing relegation concerns, and they can further relieve those fears against a struggling Burnley side, with the Eagles boasting a 100% winning record against the bottom three this term. Palace actually haven’t lost a Premier League home game against a side starting the day in the relegation zone in their last 19 such games (W13, D6), which seemingly makes Burnley an ideal opponent for the Eagles to snap their eight-game winless streak at Selhurst Park dating back to early November (D4, L4).
Things are turning toxic at Turf Moor, as a humiliating 2-0 home defeat against fellow bottom-three occupants West Ham on Saturday not only left Burnley 11 points adrift of safety, but also prompted boos from the supporters and chants against both the players and manager. Clarets boss Scott Parker remains in charge despite the rising toxicity levels and a 16-match winless league run (D5, L11), and one more failure to win here will equal a top-flight club record of 17 successive games without a victory in the same campaign set way back in 1889/90. With just one win to their name from their last 16 Premier League away games in London (D6, L9) and no wins from their last seven midweek top-flight games (D2, L5), this Burnley side appear likely to etch their names into the history books for all the wrong reasons.
Only three sides have taken fewer Premier League corners than Crystal Palace (102) this season. Burnley manager Scott Parker has never won a Premier League away match in London (D3 L5). Eight of Burnley’s 13 away league goals this season were scored after the hour mark.
Palace’s Daniel Muñoz netted the winning goal in the reverse fixture and has opened the scoring with all four of his goals this season. Lyle Foster could be a threat after the break for Burnley, netting each of his last five Premier League goals in the second half.
Neither side look to have any fresh injury concerns ahead of this clash.
