Chelsea will host Brighton Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge with both sides looking to recover from frustrating Premier League results in the last round. Chelsea won each of their last three competitive home H2Hs, and goals certainly haven’t been in short supply, with at least three scored in seven of the previous eight H2Hs. Chelsea have won each of their previous eight Premier League matches when scoring first.

Chelsea suffered their first league defeat of the season against Manchester United last weekend in a topsy-turvy match at Old Trafford. Few would bet against them bouncing back at Stamford Bridge, where the west Londoners are unbeaten in each of their last 12 home league games (W9, D3). Defence has been the bedrock of that success, with the Blues keeping seven clean sheets in the last nine games within that run, including the last three in a row, affording them the chance to keep four home clean sheets in a row for the first time since March 2021.

Brighton’s underwhelming start to the campaign continued after they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Tottenham in their previous Premier League outing at the Amex, leaving the Seagulls with a modest haul of five points from five games this season. That is by far their worst start to a Premier League season in six years, and even after smashing six goals past Barnsley on Tuesday there is further reason for trepidation given Fabian Hürzeler’s side also lost their last two away league games against Everton and Bournemouth respectively. The German will be hoping for more consistency in the coming weeks to live up to their tag of top-six challengers.

Chelsea have scored in 19 of their last 20 Premier League home games. There were goals scored in both halves in 12 of Brighton’s last 13 league games. Brighton kept only one clean sheet in their last 17 Premier League matches.

Marc Cucurella has registered two goal contributions in his seven previous appearances for club and country (G1, A1), and all eight of his Chelsea goals have come at home as he prepares to take on his former employers. Yasin Ayari scored in Brighton’s last Premier League match and has not been on the losing side in any of his last eight goalscoring appearances (W5, D3).

Cole Palmer has joined Levi Colwill and Liam Delap on the sidelines for Chelsea, while Robert Sánchez is available to face his former club following a one-match suspension. Adam Webster, Jack Hinshelwood and Solly March are all long-term absentees for Brighton Hove Albion.
