After a huge pressure-relieving win in midweek European action, Thomas Frank will now look to correct Tottenham’s Premier League course, starting against a Burnley side who look set for a quick return to the Championship. Tottenham Hotspur have won eight of the last nine H2Hs (L1), including each of the last five in a row. Spurs’ average of 10.7 shots per game in the Premier League is their lowest recorded in a single campaign since 1997/98.

Winless in 13 league games (D4, L9) and eight points adrift of safety, only a miracle and one of the greatest escapes in Premier League history will see Burnley survive from here, although they have at least been giving a solid enough account of themselves of late. A 1-1 draw at Anfield last weekend may not have done much to boost their survival hopes, but it was a fourth draw in six league games, which hints that a first top-flight win since October perhaps isn’t far away. It seems unlikely to come against one of the league’s traditional big six though, as Burnley haven’t beaten such a side since February 2022 (D4, L19).

There was huge pressure on Tottenham Hotspur boss Frank to deliver in midweek against Borussia Dortmund, and his players stepped up to secure a 2-0 victory which puts them in the driving seat to reach the UEFA Champions League last 16. Frank is far from out of the woods just yet though, as he still needs to turn around a dismal league campaign that sees them sat 14th, with the 27 points he’s managed just three better than his predecessor Ange Postecoglou did at this stage last season. A 13-match unbeaten Premier League away run against newly-promoted sides (W11, D2) certainly hints that they’re good value to improve upon that points haul this weekend and in turn snap a four-match winless league run (D2, L2).

Burnley have trailed a joint-league high five home league games at half-time this season (HT: W2, D4). Burnley haven’t won a league game after conceding first this season (D3, L13). Eight of Spurs’ 11 away league games this season featured over 2.5 goals.

Burnley winger Marcus Edwards graduated out of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, and since moving to the Clarets has seen all three of his goals serve as his side’s first of the game, including at Anfield last weekend. After registering two assists for Tottenham Hotspur in midweek, Wilson Odobert returns to Turf Moor for the first time since leaving in 2024 – his last four goals in a league setting all came on the road.

Zian Flemming is expected to return for Burnley, while Lucas Bergvall joined a long line of injured Tottenham Hotspur players after limping off in midweek.
