Bournemouth begin their Premier League home campaign with the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers side who are also seeking their first points of the new season. Bournemouth knocked Wolves out of the FA Cup on penalties in the latest clash last season, although the away side on the day has won each of the last five league meetings (BOU: W3, L2) since a 0-0 draw here back in August 2022. Bournemouth failed to win 60% of their Premier League games as home favourites last season (W6, D4, L5).

Premier League opening days don’t get tougher than a trip to face the champions, but there were positives to take from Bournemouth’s eventual 4-2 defeat against Liverpool. The Cherries’ rebuild continues after the club’s lucrative summer which saw them bring in north of £150m from sales, although the dismantling of their 24/25 defence may well have contributed to them conceding four times in a Premier League game for the first time since January 2024. Despite the negatives, Bournemouth have begun to reinvest, with the likes of Ben Doak (£25m) and Bafodé Diakité (£34m) boosting both attack and defensive options.

Also conceding four goals on the opening day, Wolverhampton Wanderers didn’t have quite as many positives to take as they were thrashed without reply by Manchester City. Much like their hosts, Wolves have also sold key players over the summer and boss Vítor Pereira expects the club to “help” him with a number of new personnel. The Old Gold remain amongst the favourites for relegation after finishing in a lower position in each of the previous three top-flight seasons, suggesting that every game could prove pivotal, starting here.

Each of Bournemouth’s last seven Premier League goals came in the second half. Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to win a third of the Premier League games in which they led last season (W12, D2, L4). Wolves have conceded in eight of their last ten halves of Premier League football (D1, L4).

Despite suffering alleged racial abuse from a member of the crowd, Antoine Semenyo hit back with a brace on the opening day for Bournemouth, meaning he has now scored each of his side’s last four goals. Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi scored the goal to secure their only point across the last five Premier League games, and both of his strikes since arriving at the club came in 1-1 draws.

Bournemouth trio Justin Kluivert, Lewis Cook and Ryan Christie all missed the defeat to Liverpool with injuries, though Wolverhampton Wanderers look to have a full squad to choose from. Aston Villa have enjoyed the better of recent meetings as they are unbeaten across the last six H2Hs (W4, D2), a run which includes winning both of their last two visits here by a one-goal margin.
