The latest edition of Der Klassiker has a lot more riding on it for Bayern Munchen than it does for visitors Borussia Dortmund. Vincent Kompany’s men welcome their rivals while sitting top of the Bundesliga table and with a six-point cushion pre-round, having accumulated their best points total at this stage for seven years – a strong response to surrendering the Meisterschale to Leverkusen last term.

Their attacking threat looks largely down to good work from Kovač on the training pitch, as since he took over in February, no other team has taken as many shots (147) or had as high an xG figure (20.8) as BVB pre-round.

Key battle: Two of the division’s leading marksmen meet here. Bayern Munchen Harry Kane has scored seven league goals in the second half of the campaign, while only Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has managed more (eight) – his last two Bundesliga strikes came after half-time in away matches.
