For the fourth year in a row, late October witnesses the first La Liga (LL) El Clásico of the season, as Barcelona host Real Madrid with both hoping to land a significant early blow. While Real Madrid edge the LL H2H stakes (W77, D35, L74), Barcelona might claim bragging rights after they won this fixture 2-1 last term to take a decisive step towards their 27th league title. A repeat would lift the hosts above Real Madrid in the table as they look to make up ground despite being the only side yet to lose a LL fixture this season (W7, D3), and following Wednesday’s 2-1 Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk which moved them within touching distance of the knockout stages, they remain unbeaten in all competitions this term (W10, D3).
