Following a dramatic draw in the first leg of this UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 tie, Barcelona look to leverage home advantage to finish the job against a resurgent Newcastle United. Barcelona dominate this H2H following the first-leg stalemate (W4, D1, L1). Newcastle United have won just over half of their overall games against Spanish opponents (W6, D1, L5), while Barcelona have progressed from their last five round of 16 ties against English sides. Barcelona have won 15 of their last 16 UCL round of 16 ties.

Not ones to go down without a fight, Newcastle United overcame the odds with an away win at Chelsea over the weekend as they look to do so once more in what is the Magpies’ final shot at glory in 2025/26. Eddie Howe’s men arrive here on the back of a stunning six-game unbeaten run of UCL games (W3, D3) and now stand on the verge of a little piece of history, as a win would represent their first-ever consecutive travelling UCL victories. Having already clawed back deficits to avoid defeat at holders PSG and Leverkusen, the Magpies arguably have more than a puncher’s chance of fighting out a close finish here.

Barcelona have found the net in 28 of their last 29 UCL matches, but have no clean sheets in the last 12. Newcastle United have scored six unanswered goals between the 30th minute and half-time in this season’s UCL. Newcastle United have lost the second leg just once across their last ten two-legged European ties (W7, D2).

Following his last-gasp penalty in the first leg, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal has four goals across his last six UCL games and has been fouled at least twice in eight of his last nine matches. Newcastle United could become the first club in UCL history to have two English players with 10+ goal contributions in one edition should first-leg scorer Harvey Barnes (G6, A3) join teammate Anthony Gordon (G10, A2) with another strike or assist.

Alejandro Balde is one of a handful of Barcelona stars to miss out through injury, while Bruno Guimarães remains Newcastle’s biggest name absentee.
