There’s no leeway for Barcelona to slip up in a thrilling La Liga title race when they host Mallorca, who also can’t afford to drop many points in their battle for survival. Highlighting Mallorca’s plight here, Barcelona are unbeaten in 19 consecutive H2Hs (W17, D2), recording 12 clean sheets and winning 11 games by a 2+ goal margin during that time. Barcelona have won six of the nine La Liga matches this season in which they conceded the first goal (L3).

Before returning to their cup exploits in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League, Barcelona need to continue their domestic intensity that has seen them win 11 of their last 12 La Liga matches and sit atop the standings for the majority of the season. Comfortable wins over Real Oviedo (3-0 home) and Elche (3-1 away) mean that their unrivalled goalscoring machine has scored at least twice as many La Liga goals than all but a small handful of other clubs, whilst those lucky enough to attend every La Liga home game have seen their team pile on 31 goals in ten consecutive victories.

Crucial victories over Athletic Club (3-2) and Sevilla (4-1) in their last two La Liga home outings have helped Mallorca keep their heads above water, and with only four points separating ninth from 18th at the start of the round, they’re in the midst of an incredibly competitive fight for survival. That battle is unlikely to get any easier for Mallorca if they cannot enhance what was the league’s third-worst away record (W1, D2, L8) at the start of this round. Immediate improvement here looks unlikely, especially when considering that Mallorca have lost all seven La Liga away games against the 13 sides above them at the end of the previous round.

Barcelona ‘won’ the second half in all ten La Liga home games this season. Eight of Mallorca’s last 11 La Liga away games produced over 2.5 goals. Seven of Mallorca’s last nine La Liga defeats were by a one-goal margin.

Lamine Yamal has scored or assisted in each of his last six games in all competitions, and five goal contributions (G2, A3) across his last four H2Hs with Mallorca hint at that streak continuing here. La Liga veteran Vedat Muriqi is in similarly imperious form, striking in an outstanding five of his last seven La Liga appearances, with both teams scoring in all five.

Barcelona might consider resting Raphinha for one more game, whilst Marash Kumbulla was Mallorca’s only injury during the week.
