Two La Liga powerhouses come face-to-face in the last four of the Copa del Rey, as ten-time winners Atletico Madrid take on defending champions Barcelona in a re-run of last season’s semi-final. Barcelona have won eight of the last ten H2Hs (D1, L1), while they are also undefeated in their last eight Copa del Rey clashes with Atletico Madrid (W6, D2). Ten of Atlético’s last 14 home matches featured over 2.5 goals.

Atletico Madrid’s patchy start to the year continued on Sunday when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Real Betis, a result which came hot on the heels of their 5-0 thrashing of the same opposition in this competition last week. Diego Simeone’s side have only won four of their ten outings across all competitions in 2026 (D3, L3), and a return home isn’t guaranteed to stimulate a response given Atletico Madrid have lost back-to-back matches for the first time since April. Ominously, one of those reversals came against Barcelona at this very stage of this competition, but nine wins from their last 12 Thursday-held games are a much more positive omen to cling to for an Atletico Madrid side looking to win this competition for the first time since 2013.

Barcelona’s victory over Atletico Madrid last year came en route to lifting the Copa del Rey for a record-extending 32nd time, and Hansi Flick’s men have looked hungry for another title this year too, breezing through three rounds to reach a 13th semi-final in the last 16 editions. Their 2-1 win against Albacete in the last round came as part of a six-game winning run which includes a 3-0 thrashing of Mallorca on Saturday. Hitting the road should only heighten belief they can extend that run here given Barça have won eight of their last nine away games, while 11 wins from their last 12 Copa del Rey away games underpin their warm favouritism here.

Only two of Atletico Madrid’s last eight games saw both teams score. Barcelona have netted exactly twice in each of their three Copa del Rey games this season. Barcelona’s last seven fixtures produced over 2.5 goals.

Atletico Madrid defender Marcos Llorente could be an unlikely candidate for a goal here given his last six strikes came in cup football. Ferran Torres has netted 16 goals for Barcelona this season, 12 of which arrived before half-time.

Johnny Cardoso looks set to sit this one out for Atletico Madrid. Barcelona will be without Marcus Rashford, Pedri and Raphinha.
