Union Berlin’s five-match unbeaten Bundesliga run comes under threat against a Borussia Dortmund side who are enjoying life on the road domestically this season. Union Berlin have lost five of their last six top-flight H2Hs (W1), though that sole win did come in last season’s corresponding fixture. Dortmund have led a league-high 13 Bundesliga games at half-time this season (HT: D4, L1).

After struggling for consistency in the early part of the campaign, Union Berlin’s unbeaten league run (W3, D2) has vastly improved their European qualification chances. Three draws in succession perhaps hints at their momentum waning a little, but with just five points separating them from the top six pre-round, they have plenty of incentive to keep their streak going. Just one defeat across their last seven league games at Stadion An der Alten Försterei (W2, D4) certainly hints that they’re capable of pushing up the table this weekend and an impressive home record against sides starting this round in the top five (W2, D1, L1) suggests they shouldn’t be overawed by the size of the task at hand.

With just one defeat across their opening 18 Bundesliga matches this season (W11, D6), Dortmund arrive in the capital in fine fettle themselves, producing their best start to a campaign since 2018/19 in the process. A 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in midweek UEFA Champions League action may have dampened spirits, but Dortmund ought not to be too disheartened given they’re unbeaten across their last eight league games directly following a European match (W4, D4). Niko Kovač’s side have also performed strongly on the road this season in the top-flight, with only runaway leaders Bayern Munich picking up more than their 16 Bundesliga away points ahead of this round (W4, D4, L1).

Seven of Union’s nine Bundesliga home games saw both teams score. Pre-round, Union’s Bundesliga games have averaged the second-fewest first-half goals per game this season (1.11). Dortmund have opened the scoring in a league-high 16 of their 18 Bundesliga games.

Woo-yeong Jeong has three goal contributions across his last five Bundesliga appearances for Union (G2, A1), whilst he previously scored the opener in a personal home H2H in February 2021 whilst playing for Freiburg. Karim Adeyemi produced a goal and assist in his last Bundesliga outing, with Dortmund unbeaten across his 28 goalscoring appearances for the club (W23, D5).

Tim Skarke and Tom Rothe are both still missing for Union here, while Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer has missed their last two games.
