PSG ended Wednesday five points clear at the top after a 3-1 win at Montpellier, bringing them one step closer to the outright record of 11 French titles. Here, they should feel confident against a Toulouse side they trounced 3-0 back in August, but complacency was their enemy in last Sunday’s shock 1-1 home draw vs Reims, when the Parisians lost home league points after netting the opener – a first instance of this happening since May 2022.

No title charge is without its blips of course, and PSG’s now 32-strong run of unbeaten home league games speaks for itself (W27, D5). As such, it should again be just a matter of time in terms of PSG scoring, though the Parisians have been quick even by their own standards when successful, finding the net inside 15 minutes in their previous three home victories.

Mid-table and with only a maiden Coupe de France to realistically target, Toulouse could be forgiven for feeling like mere bit players. That is despite their 4-1 victory over Troyes in midweek, during which they fought back from an early deficit, to maintain what remains their longest unbeaten start to a calendar year in Ligue 1 action for more than a decade (W4, D1).

But it seems unlikely Toulouse will emulate their most recent year to see a six-game unbeaten start in the top-flight (2009). On top of losing by a 3+ goal margin in both prior visits to a current top-three team this season, they’ve also lost by four clear goals in two of their previous three trips to the Parc des Princes, potentially providing a psychological block.

Players to watch: Prior to Warren Zaïre-Emery becoming PSG’s youngest ever scorer, Fabián Ruiz registered a goal and assist on Wednesday night. The Spaniard will aim to use the momentum gained early, as he seeks a maiden first-half PSG goal. But even if he gets it, Thijs Dallinga has the potential to spark a fightback – as he did in Toulouse’s midweek victory over Troyes, to make three of his previous five league goals equalisers for 1-1.

Hot stat: PSG have won one half by a 1-0 scoreline in four of their previous five H2Hs vs Toulouse.
