Porto and Al Ahly head into the final round of the FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) Group A in New York locked level on a point, meaning it is simply win or bust for these sides, who both head into this on the back of drawing on matchday one and losing in round two. Porto have never played competitively against African opposition, while Al Ahly have lost both of their prior CWC H2Hs against European sides, most recently a 4-1 reversal in the 2023 semi final against Real Madrid.

Porto are suffering a similar fate to that of many of the other European sides in the Club World Cup, and stand on the precipice of elimination if they can’t turn their form around here. Unlike Porto with their sole strike, Al Ahly are yet to even score in this tournament after going down 2-0 against Palmeiras on matchday two in what is a highly disappointing return for the Egyptian side in their 11th Club World Cup tournament, the most by any African side.

Porto are yet to score from open play in this Club World Cup tournament. Only one of Porto’s last five games saw both teams score. Both of Al Ahly’s CWC defeats against European sides finished with 2+ goal margins. Al Ahly have received fewer cards than their opponents in their last four competitive games.

Samu scored Porto’s first Club World Cup goal from the penalty spot last time out, meaning five of his last seven goals for the club came from a penalty kick. Al Ahly’s Trezeguet has attempted four shots to no avail at the tournament but has won five of his six scoring appearances this season.

Porto will miss Marko Grujić in midfield, who remains sidelined with a heel injury. Al Ahly will remain without Emam Ashour after he departed the field in matchday one with a broken collarbone.
