Bad blood has been simmering between Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace since the summer, and with the pair now embroiled in talks over Jean-Philippe Mateta, this high-stakes Premier League clash promises to catch fire on Sunday. Crystal Palace have failed to win all 11 prior Premier League H2Hs against Forest (D7, L4), the most they’ve ever faced an opponent without winning in the competition. Nottingham Forest have conceded the opener in eight of their 11 home league fixtures this term.

Nottingham Forest hardly endeared themselves to their visitors in the summer when they benefitted from a court decision that saw Crystal Palace barred from the UEFA Europa League, and that relationship is unlikely to improve if Mateta makes the switch this month. The Tricky Trees hardly looked in need of the Frenchman’s goals when they thrashed previously unbeaten Ferencváros 4-0 in the Europa League on Thursday, and with that result following a three-match unbeaten Premier League run (W2, D1), things are starting to look up for Sean Dyche’s squad. They’ll be targeting further improvements at home to grow their pre-round five-point margin to the relegation zone, as Forest have won just once in five league outings at the City Ground (D1, L3).

Crystal Palace are in real danger of becoming embroiled in the relegation dogfight, as last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea stretched the Eagles’ winless run to 11 matches (D3, L8), eight of which have come in the league (D2, L6). They sit just three points clear of Nottingham Forest after a torrid January that witnessed an embarrassing defeat against sixth-tier opponents and prompted star players and manager Oliver Glasner to scramble for the exit door. The Austrian remains in post despite Crystal Palace accumulating the fewest points (two), most losses (six) and fewest goals (eight) in the Premier League since matchday 16, and given that they’ve lost five successive away games across all competitions, things may not be about to improve here.

Just one of Nottingham Forest’s last seven competitive home games saw both teams score. Crystal Palace have conceded exactly twice in each of their last three away matches. Crystal Palace possess the division’s second-best first-half away record pre-round (HT: W4, D5, L2).

Igor Jesus has scored four times in as many matches for Nottingham Forest, but despite taking his goal tally for the season to 11 with a midweek brace, he’s yet to score a domestic goal at the City Ground. Brennan Johnson played over 100 games for Nottingham Forest, and returns with Crystal Palace having never been involved in a goal against his former club, while he’s also blanked in his five matches since joining the Eagles.

Nottingham Forest look to have no new issues, while Adam Wharton is suspended for Palace.
