Carabao Cup holders Newcastle United face a stern test of their competition credentials when they host a Manchester City side closing in on the all-time record for EFL Cup victories. Newcastle United won this corresponding fixture 2-1 in the Premier League earlier this season, but that’s one of just two wins they’ve managed in the last 16 H2Hs (D3, L11). Harvey Barnes’ weekend brace against Bournemouth served as his fourth home double of the season for Newcastle United – including against Manchester City – with seven of those eight goals arriving after half-time. New Manchester City signing Antoine Semenyo scored on his debut against Exeter and has now scored 11 of his last 13 goals at club level beyond the break.

Jacob Murphy missed Newcastle’s game against Bournemouth, during which Valentino Livramento picked up yet another injury. Rúben Dias and Savinho have missed Manchester City’s last two games.
