Monaco’s slide down the Ligue 1 table has been alarming, but their situation is nowhere near as desperate as that of Nantes, who are cut adrift in the bottom three. Monaco are unbeaten in the last 15 Ligue 1 H2Hs (W10, D5), with the last seven such games averaging a whopping 5.6 goals per match. Only two of Monaco’s last eight league matches saw both teams score.
A three-match unbeaten league run has at least helped steady the ship a little for a Monaco side who’d lost seven of their eight league games prior. Yet just two wins from their last 11 league games (D2, L7) have seen them plummet from second at the end of matchday ten to their current standing of tenth and ensured they have posted a lower points return after 21 rounds than in 11 of the 12 prior seasons. They can perhaps cling to the fact their two league wins since the start of November came on home soil, but a Friday night game hints at yet more misery for Monaco, who have won just two of their last 16 Friday-held Ligue 1 games (D5, L9), with two of those draws coming against Nantes.
Another stalemate is probably a best case scenario for Nantes, who have now lost seven of their last eight Ligue 1 games (W1), part of a wider run of one win in 12 top-flight games (D2, L9). With such a run behind them, it’s little surprise to note that Nantes are now firmly cut adrift in the bottom three, sitting eight points short of definite safety on the back of their worst-ever 21-game start to a league campaign in club history. Strangely, hitting the road could help their survival prospects given they’re one of just two Ligue 1 sides to have claimed more points on the road (9) than at home (5) this season.
Monaco have received a league-high 47 yellow cards this term. Nantes have registered a league-low 61 shots on target in Ligue 1 this season. Nantes have conceded 12 of their 15 away league goals this term after half-time.
Monaco’s Folarin Balogun could have an early say on proceedings having scored five of his last six club goals before half-time. Fabien Centonze could relish an away game for Nantes having netted his last five goals on the road, including three this season, which leave him needing one more to equal his best-ever tally in a single campaign.
Monaco will be without this season’s top scorer Ansu Fati, while Nantes’ Bahmed Deuff has missed their last two games.
