Two of Ligue 1’s top three come face-to-face here, as Marseille look to bounce back from a midweek defeat by putting a dent in Lens’ title aspirations. Lens have won five of the last seven H2Hs (L2), including coming from behind to land a 2-1 success on home soil in October’s reverse fixture. Marseille’s home matches are averaging a league-high 3.78 goals per game this season.

Marseille’s inconsistent start to 2026 continued with a disappointing midweek 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League which marked their third loss in five games since the turn of the year (W2), yet those two wins came by a 14-2 combined score! Roberto De Zerbi’s side sit third in Ligue 1 ahead of this round, but have fallen away from the top two by picking up just seven points from the last available 15 (W2, D1, L2). Despite losing here on Wednesday, a home game should help Marseille improve on that as they’ve been lethal here in Ligue 1, netting a league-high 24 goals and losing just once (W6, D2), even if that came in their last such fixture against Nantes (2-0).

Surprise title contenders Lens enter this round top of Ligue 1 by one point, a position they have held since beating Angers 2-1 in late November. With PSG still breathing down their necks, fans won’t be getting ahead of themselves as they fight for a first French crown since 1997/98, but a sensational eight-match winning streak – their longest in the French top flight – has put Pierre Sage’s side in pole position at this stage. The Blood and Gold have been particularly strong defensively, conceding a league-low 13 goals, while they’ve recorded five successive away wins across all competitions since a shock defeat to Metz in October, with the previous two accompanied by clean sheets.

Marseille’s league fixtures at Stade Vélodrome are averaging a league-low 7.89 corners. Lens have netted a pre-round Ligue 1 high eight headers this season. Lens’ last five away games each produced over 2.5 total goals.

Marseille’s Mason Greenwood is still leading the Ligue 1 golden boot race, while also averaging a league-high 4.18 shots per 90 minutes. Lens’ Adrien Thomasson is joint-top of the Ligue 1 assist charts ahead of this round (A6), but has registered just one in his last nine such appearances.

Emerson Palmieri is a doubt for Marseille after missing their midweek game. Lens’ Odsonne Édouard missed their last match and remains a doubt here.
