Manchester City enter this Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Brentford in sparkling form, but the visitors have shown resilience in this competition this term. Manchester City have won four of the last five H2Hs (D1), with the last three of those victories coming via a one-goal margin. They’ve won eight of the ten meetings they’ve hosted (L2). Manchester City earned fewer than four corners in three of their last four games.

Manchester City approach their first Carabao Cup quarter-final since 2022/23 looking almost unstoppable, as Sunday’s 3-0 league win over Crystal Palace was their fifth successive victory across all competitions. The Cityzens have won this competition eight times, although not since 2020/21, and eased past lower-league opponents Huddersfield (2-0) and Swansea (3-1) to get to this stage. And after watching their side’s 2-1 UEFA Champions League win at Real Madrid last Wednesday, City fans will be in good spirits at the Etihad Stadium, where Pep Guardiola’s side have won their last five games in this competition.

Brentford fans might be happy to forget about their side’s poor league form for one night as they look to go one stage further than they managed last term and end a three-match winless run that includes Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Leeds (D1, L2). They’re huge outsiders, but Keith Andrews’ side have encouragingly already seen off two Premier League opponents to get this far in Aston Villa and Bournemouth before thrashing Grimsby 5-0 in the last round. While the Bees have also impressively won six of their last seven Carabao Cup away fixtures (L1), they’ve ominously lost each of their last four competitive away games, failing to score three times therein.

Manchester City have scored 3+ goals in five of their last six home fixtures. Each of Brentford’s last three matches produced exactly two goals. Brentford have conceded exactly twice in each of their last four away games.

Phil Foden has scored six times across City’s last five games, with the last four of those coming between the 40th and 70th minute. Jordan Henderson, who opened the scoring for Brentford against Leeds on Sunday (D 1-1), has faced City no fewer than 33 times in his career (W11, D8, L14), with four goal contributions during those outings (G2, A2).

Jérémy Doku was a surprise absentee from City’s game against Palace with a leg injury, so he may be unavailable again, while Brentford will be hoping Reiss Nelson is fit after missing their last two fixtures due to injury.
