After failing to win any of their opening four La Liga games this season (D1, L3), Mallorca will be hoping to cause a surprise when they face Atlético Madrid this weekend. Mallorca have won six of their last 11 home La Liga H2Hs (D1, L4), although Atleti have claimed victory in each of the last five meetings between the sides overall. Atlético have kept 18 clean sheets in La Liga since the start of 2024/25 – more than any other team.

Mallorca finished comfortably in mid-table last season, so their fans would have been hoping to kick on and have their sights set on European qualification this time round, but instead, they have started 2025/26 poorly. The Pirates have recorded their lowest points total at this stage of a La Liga campaign since 2000/01 after losing 3-2 to Espanyol last weekend despite playing the entire second half against ten men, so will be desperate to end their seven-match wait for a league victory carrying over to last term (D2, L5).

Atlético Madrid arrive on the back of a last-gasp UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool – a fourth away loss in seven for Diego Simeone’s side (W1, D2). Part of that run has led to them starting this matchday in 11th place and already a fair distance off rivals Real Madrid at the summit, although the fact that they have lost just seven of their 42 La Liga games since the start of last season (W23, D12) could be enough to inspire a return to winning ways on their travels here.

Mallorca have scored more than once in just one of their last six home league games (W1, D2, L3). Mallorca boss Jagoba Arrasate has lost 13 of his 14 La Liga matches against Diego Simeone – the joint-most defeats a manager has suffered against another in competition history. Atlético have won just one of their last six away league fixtures, failing to score in three of them.

Vedat Muriqi has scored in both of Mallorca’s last two games, while his two H2H goals have both served as the only goal in 1-0 wins. Antoine Griezmann has not found the net in La Liga since February, but that goal did come last season against Mallorca.

Mallorca appear to have a mostly clean bill of health across their squad, but Atlético could be without a number of key players for this game, including forward Julián Alvarez.
