The Bundesliga returns from the first international window of the season with winless Heidenheim hoping to cause an upset against unbeaten Borussia Dortmund. Heidenheim have failed to win any of their four H2Hs with Dortmund (D2, L2), all of which came during Frank Schmidt’s tenure, and they conceded 2+ goals in three of those matches. Dortmund won only five of 15 Bundesliga games as away favourites since the start of 2024/25 (D3, L7).
Narrowly avoiding relegation from the Bundesliga last season thanks to their relegation play-off victory, Heidenheim supporters would have been hoping for their side to make a quick start to their 2025/26 campaign. Courtesy of two-goal losing margins against Wolfsburg (3-1) and Leipzig (2-0), the hosts are on a three-game top-flight losing streak (L3) that they have exceeded in length only twice in their history. That leaves them vulnerable heading into this clash, and with Frank Schmidt’s side having won just one of their last ten home league matches (D1, L8), they could be facing more misery here.
Another home defeat is even more likely when taking a glance at Borussia Dortmund’s recent form, as they arrive here yet to lose this season (W1, D1) and in the midst of a ten-match unbeaten league run overall (W8, D2). That means that since late March, no side in Germany’s Bundesliga have picked up more points than the visitors (26), leaving them in a solid position ahead of this matchday to register a third consecutive Bundesliga campaign in which they were unbeaten across their opening three matchdays.
Since the start of 2023/24, no side has lost more home Bundesliga games than Heidenheim (13). Heidenheim have conceded 2+ goals in 13 of their last 18 home games across all competitions. Dortmund have scored 3+ goals in each of their last seven Bundesliga games.
Adrian Beck could prove to be Heidenheim’s lucky charm, with his side losing during just one of his 11 goalscoring appearances (W9, D1) – winning all four in 2024/25. Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has aggregated 18 league goals so far in 2025, scoring in each of his last seven Bundesliga matches. His 18 is the second-most across Europe’s top five leagues heading into this weekend after Kylian Mbappé.
Heidenheim will again be without forward Marvin Pieringer here, while Dortmund remain mired with injury concerns, missing as many as five first teamers including new signing Fábio Silva.
