It’s set to be an evening of contrasting emotions at Turf Moor, as defeat against Manchester City will confirm Burnley’s relegation to the Championship, while three points for the Cityzens would see them summit the Premier League. Burnley have lost their last 11 league H2Hs against Manchester City, their longest ever such losing run against a single opponent in history. Seven of Manchester City’s last nine league games featured over 2.5 goals.

Things looked positive when Burnley went 1-0 up against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, but an all too typical collapse saw them succumb to a humiliating 4-1 defeat. With fans scratching their heads as to how Scott Parker remains in a job after a run of one win in 24 league games (D7, L16), some Clarets fans are electing to boycott this game in protest against the ownership group’s decision not to sack him and yet another failed tilt at Premier League survival. ALK Capital’s three full Premier League seasons in power at Turf Moor have all ended in relegation, and given Burnley haven’t won at home in the top flight since October (D4, L8), those electing to stay away aren’t likely to miss much.

Manchester City sit firmly at the other end of the positivity spectrum after Sunday’s 2-1 victory in what was billed a title showdown against Arsenal moved them to within three points of the Gunners. Victory here will move Manchester City top of the table with Arsenal out of action, and with Mikel Arteta’s men playing twice before Pep Guardiola’s side play another league game after this clash, Manchester City simply can’t afford any slip ups. One defeat in their last 20 league outings (W13, D6) shows just how rarely Manchester City have faltered of late, and having won 26 of their last 29 league games against newly promoted opposition (D3), another slip up seems highly unlikely at Turf Moor.

Burnley have conceded a league-high seven home goals in the opening 15 minutes this season. Burnley have conceded 2+ goals in 12 of their last 15 top-flight matches. Manchester City have conceded 14 of their 17 away league goals this season after half time.

Zian Flemming may have seen none of his last seven Burnley goals come in winning causes (D1, L6), but he needs just one more to become the first Clarets player since Chris Wood in 2020/21 to hit double figures in the Premier League. Erling Haaland was Manchester City’s match winner against Arsenal and few would bet against him following that up here given he averages a goal every 36 minutes against Burnley.

Hannibal remains sidelined for Burnley, while Manchester City’s Rodri was withdrawn with a late knock against Arsenal.
