Serbia (FIFA rank: #35) have progressed from UEFA Nations League (UNL) League C in 2018/19 to League A for this campaign, which they launched with a creditable 0-0 draw against European champions Spain. However, after losing 2-0 to Denmark on matchday two, they may feel under some pressure against Switzerland, the only side below them in Group A4.

Going unbeaten across seven of their last eight home games (W5, D2) is a big positive for the Eagles however, and after that fine result against Spain in Belgrade, they’ll be looking to build on a record of only ever losing two UNL fixtures as hosts (W5, D3). They do at least boast a perfect record against Serbia (W2), although those wins – both via a one-goal margin – came during the 2018 and 2022 World Cup group stages.

Scoring once across their last four away games tells its own story (W1, D1, L2) with the Red Crosses desperately seeking goals on their travels, although they hardly helped themselves in Denmark by finishing the game with nine men. They’ll need to be right up for this one then, as it’s been a similarly disappointing story in this competition with the Swiss having won only one of their last eight UNL away games (D1, L6).

Players to watch: Aleksandar Mitrović has four goal contributions across his last two appearances for Al Hilal (G2, A2) and scored Serbia’s openers in both previous H2Hs. Switzerland’s Granit Xhaka netted in the 2018 meeting (Serbia 1-2 Switzerland) but may be more likely to turn provider given he’s registered three assists across his last six club appearances.
