Osasuna won many admirers but no points at the Bernabéu on Tuesday, so will be eager to get off the mark in their first home game of the season against Valencia at El Sadar. Two of Osasuna’s league-high 16 La Liga draws last season came against Valencia, and they have won just one of the last six H2Hs (D2, L3). The Pamplona outfit are also on their longest run of conceding against Valencia in home league games, conceding 18 goals in the last ten meetings.

Osasuna withstood a barrage of Real Madrid attacks from the outset on Tuesday night, but conceded from Real’s only counterattack of the match through a penalty that head coach Alessio Lisci questioned after the match. It was an encouragingly organised defensive effort from a club that kept only nine clean sheets in La Liga last season, and yet Lisci has promised a more aggressive Osasuna when they return home to El Sadar, where they have won each of their last four La Liga games.

Valencia began their season with a respectable 1-1 draw at home against Real Sociedad – a side that finished one place above Los Che in 11th last season. Carlos Corberán’s ability to lead the side to a first top-eight finish in eight seasons will depend on significantly improving their dismal away record, where they only earned 15 points from 19 La Liga away games (W2, D9, L8), a total which bettered only Espanyol (12) and Valladolid (3).

A joint-league high 74% of Osasuna’s home games last La Liga season saw both teams score. Osasuna were one of five clubs to score first and win in at least ten La Liga home matches last season. Valencia conceded the fewest fouls (5) on matchday one in La Liga this season. Valencia both scored and conceded in 68% of their away fixtures last La Liga season, second only to Celta Vigo (74%).

Osasuna midfielder Aimar Oroz recorded two of his five league goals of 2024/25 the last time these teams met, while Diego López struck Valencia’s only goal against Sociedad last round and also opened the scoring in the previous H2H.

Iker Benito missed Osasuna’s opening match with an ankle injury, while Abel Bretones was sent off and will serve a suspension. Valencia have no new notable absences.
