Premier League leaders Arsenal face another tough test as they cross the capital to face European qualification hopefuls Brentford. Brentford’s first-ever Premier League win came against Arsenal in August 2021, but since then they’re winless in eight against the Gunners (D2, L6). Arsenal have kept four clean sheets across their last five Premier League matches.

After suffering a pair of Premier League defeats to close out January, Brentford have responded with successive victories in February to boost their European qualification prospects. A stunning 3-2 win away to Newcastle United on Saturday announced them as genuine top-five contenders and continued their impressive form on the road, which has supplemented their stats as one of the Premier League’s best-performing home sides this term. The Bees have lost just two of their 12 top-flight outings at the Gtech Community Stadium so far this campaign (W7, D3), though the fact that they’re winless across their last seven home Premier League London derbies since August 2024 could cause concern.

Arsenal took another sizeable step towards their first Premier League title since 2003/04 at the weekend when they beat Sunderland 3-0 at the Emirates. The Gunners come into this midweek round six points clear at the summit, yet while confidence is likely to be close to an all-time high, the fact that this match falls on a Thursday could plant a seed of doubt for Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal have both failed to win (D1, L2) and even score across each of their last three league outings played on a Thursday, yet a return of just one defeat across their last 20 away Premier League London derbies (W14, D5) is much more in keeping with what the formbook suggests we should expect of Arsenal.

Brentford’s home Premier League games are averaging just 8.92 corners per match. Brentford have scored first in 15 Premier League games this season, with only three sides managing the feat more often ahead of this matchday. Arsenal have conceded a pre-round joint-league low six first-half goals this season.

Brentford’s Igor Thiago has scored nine goals in his last ten Premier League home games – six of his last seven top-flight home goals arrived on or beyond the hour mark. No Premier League player has more goals across all competitions in 2026 than Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres (6) coming into this round, with four of his last five coming after the 60th minute.

Brentford have no fresh injury concerns, though Arsenal are potentially without a number of stars including Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard.
