Auckland City vs Boca Juniors Full Match Highlights Replay Club World Cup.
After becoming the first team to be effectively eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup (CWC), Auckland City will hope they can restore some pride and take Argentina’s Boca Juniors out with them. This will be Auckland City’s first encounter with a South American club since losing 2-1 in extra time to San Lorenzo in the semi-finals of the 2014 CWC, while Boca Juniors have never played against a club from Oceania.

Auckland City’s place on this stage has come under scrutiny after they fell to the largest (10-0) and second-largest (6-0) losing margins in Club World Cup history in their first two matches. The fact that they sit fourth in their domestic league back home illustrates how poorly prepared they were for a group containing three of the world’s 200 best clubs as per Opta Power Rankings. Facing such illustrious opposition was always likely to be a tough task, and with an expected goals (xG) total of just 0.15 in this group stage, simply netting a goal in this group stage seems unlikely.

Boca Juniors certainly weren’t disgraced in their 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on matchday two, with their defensive-minded performance undoubtedly their game plan inorder to protect their goal difference. It did, however, complete a six-game run without a single win in regulation time for the Argentinians (D3, L3), so it’s hard to make a case they’re deserving of the knockout stages. Boca’s 2-2 draw with Benfica means they’ll need Benfica to lose to Bayern while they concurrently defeat Auckland City by a margin big enough to supersede them on goal difference.

Auckland City are on a nine-game losing streak in CWCs/Intercontinental Cups (including a walkover in 2020). Auckland City failed to score in six of their last seven Club World Cup encounters. Boca Juniors have scored in all four of their Club World Cup games played to date. Boca Juniors have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven wins across all competitions.

Jerson Lagos, one of Auckland’s two goalscorers at the 2024 Intercontinental Cup, was their only player to produce more than one shot in the 6-0 loss to Benfica. Following his equaliser against Bayern, Miguel Merentiel has five goal contributions (G3, A2) in his last seven games for club or country.

Auckland midfielder Tong Zhou could be out with concussion after an early substitution against Benfica. Ander Herrera and Nicolás Figal are missing through suspension for Boca Juniors.
