Two sides who were 1-0 winners on the opening weekend of the Premier League season face off on matchday two, as Arsenal host Leeds. Arsenal have avoided defeat in each of the last 14 H2Hs (W12, D2), winning the previous six meetings. Leeds have been beaten on ten of their last 12 Premier League away H2Hs (W2), failing to keep a clean sheet in any of the last 14 such matches. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 42 Premier League home games against promoted sides (W37, D5), just one short of the all-time competition record.

Arsenal were far from convincing in their 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend, creating just 0.28 xG from open play. Points are the only currency that matter to boss Mikel Arteta as he seeks to end their long wait for a Premier League title, and the Spaniard was thrilled with his side’s “resilience and will to win” at Old Trafford, something which will be sorely needed if they’re to be crowned champions. This fixture therefore takes on even greater significance given that it precedes a trip to face current champions Liverpool at Anfield next week.

Victory on the opening weekend was arguably even more important for Leeds, who became the first winners of the Championship to take three points from their first Premier League game since 2007/08. It marked the first time that boss Daniel Farke has personally won back-to-back matches in the competition, but having been relegated from this league before, he knows there is a long way to go in their survival bid. Farke will know his side’s season certainly won’t be defined in games like this, but if they pull off an upset, it’ll be the first time that Leeds have won their first two games of a top-flight season since 2002/03.

Arsenal have scored 31 Premier League goals from corners since the start of 2023/24. Leeds have lost 23 of their last 30 away league matches in London (W4, D3), including each of their last seven in the Premier League. Leeds have won seven successive games, keeping five clean sheets in the process.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will be confident of hitting the target on home turf given that six of his last seven Premier League strikes have come at the Emirates. Leeds’ Lukas Nmecha could be in line for a start after becoming just the second player in club history to score a penalty on his debut, and the first since 1922.

Gabriel Jesus was joined on the treatment table by Kai Havertz this week, with a knee injury set to keep him sidelined for an extended period. Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu will be missing until at least the international break after being on the receiving end of a heavy challenge against Everton.
