Andorra go in search of a rare and unlikely victory against a Serbia side who saw their manager resign after losing to Albania on Saturday. The only previous meeting between these two teams was Serbia’s convincing 3-0 victory over Andorra in reverse WCQ H2H back in June.

Andorra sit in an all too familiar position in Group K, with five defeats from six matches (D1) leaving them bottom of the table. The Bishops have in fact picked up the wooden spoon in all bar one of their FIFA World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) campaigns, the odd one out being when finishing fifth of six nations in their attempts to reach Qatar 2022. Koldo Álvarez’s men have failed to build on that this time around, and although a 2-2 draw against Latvia on Saturday means they have finally scored during this campaign, it also extended a three-year winless run in competitive internationals to 21 matches (D5, L16).

They could therefore provide the perfect opponent for Serbia, who have been thrown into chaos after suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time since June 2022. Manager Dragan Stojković stood down in the wake of a 1-0 loss at the hands of Albania, which came hot on the heels of September’s 5-0 hammering by England. Those results leave the nation with a mountain to climb to reach the World Cup. They now sit in third place in the table, four points off a play-off spot, amid a failure to score in three of their five qualifiers, whilst netting just four times across WCQ despite an xG of 6.4.

Only one of Andorra’s last 16 games has seen both teams score. Andorra are averaging 0.7 shots on target per game, a joint-low for WCQ ahead of this round. Three of the four goals scored by Serbia in WCQ have been before half-time. None of Serbia’s last six games have seen both teams score.

Albert Rosas has scored five goals for Andorra, four of which have served as the first or last of the game. Serbia defender Strahinja Pavlović will look to keep him quiet, and he picked up three clean sheets in his last four away trips in WCQ.

The hosts will be without Joel Guillén after he got sent off against Latvia. Serbia do not appear to have any fresh injuries.
